Hello, Deaf Rainbow community! As the chair of our fantastic organisation, I am delighted to share some thrilling news with you. Our website, known for its extensive BSL glossary, will have some development and promotion.

Our glossary currently boasts an array of signs for various words such as ‘Gay’ and ‘Lesbian’. However, we’ve recognised that several signs are absent, like ‘intersex’. This signifies a gap in representation that we are eager to address.

To this end, we’ve been in useful discussions with UCL and have mutually agreed to research and collect more signs to enrich our glossary.Good news is that we have secured funding from UCL. This will allow us to focus on promoting LGBTIQA+ equality and cultivate a culture that encourages inclusive activities. This is a significant milestone as it marks the official kick-off of our ambitious project.

About the Project

The project aims to discuss and review the BSL glossary of LGBTIQA+ words and signs, creating new signs where none currently exist. Our goal is to complete this project by November.

Once completed, we plan to host a social event in celebration, including a live show where we will demonstrate the existing signs and discuss the newly created ones. This event promises to be an enjoyable social experience for all deaf and hearing staff, students, as well as the wider community.

We encourage you to be a part of this exciting journey. If you’re interested and would like to know more or get involved, we’d be delighted to have you join us at Deaf Rainbow UK. We’ll be providing regular updates and look forward to seeing many of you getting involved.

Keep an eye on our social media channels, as we will be regularly posting updates. Also, we will need your help in collecting various signs, so your active participation is greatly welcomed.

This initiative is genuinely exciting and marks a significant step towards making our community more inclusive. Together, we can make a positive impact.

Thank you for your continuous support!
